RECENT DROUGHTS IN SOMALILAND
In the last 3 years Somaliland has experienced a severe drought and serious water crisis. These repeated droughts have lead to displacement and forced migration of vast number of communities in Somaliland. The government of Somaliland declared drought in the summer of 2015. This drought persisted for more than a year causing a devastating famine that swept through Somaliland.
The lives of hundreds of people, and thousands of livestock were lost due to lack of water and pasture. Most people affected by the drought are dependent on farming and livestock exchange for survival.

Families who lived in rural areas were forced to migrate into other rural areas in an attempt to alleviate the threat of the drought however, the displaced families and their children had to depend on their neighbours for food and water, which further exhausted the host community’s resources, and capacity to survive through the drought

Despite the government of Somaliland’s effort to intervene the devastation of the prolonged drought, was massive. Basic human services and life support, such as food security and lack of water has ultimately led malnutrition, dehydration and drought-related diseases.
SuradH20 is a collective of women from these communities who are determined to help and alleviate this recurring problem. Your help and support to raise funds for building water wells and sanitation projects in the affected regions of Somaliland will go along away. We are committed to showing our donors and supporters ultimate transparency on how funds will be allocated to deliver this project. Which means: 100% of the funds raised, will reach target communities.
